Establishing or re-establishing credit
can be a difficult task. Few credit card companies are willing to extend credit to those who may need the most
help. Whether you are looking to establish your credit for the first time or need to re-establish credit from previous
problems, you almost certainly will need some sort of credit card--not only to use for purchases but also, with
a good payment record, to give you a good credit rating.

Check your credit upfront. This gives you an opportunity to discover--and correct--any mistakes |
| Try for an unsecured (no security deposit) card first. If this option is not available to you, get a secured card so you can begin
the process of credit establishment. |
| Begin slowly. It is
better to have an account with a low credit line than to not have a credit card at all. If payments are made as
agreed, you usually can increase your line. |
| Pay religiously. You
must make your payments precisely as agreed if you want to either increase the limit or to apply for additional
credit (such as a car or home). |
